Top Seeds Cruise Into Potosí Round of 16 as Women's Draw Begins
POTOSÍ, Mexico - The men's top seeds made their intentions clear on opening day of the FIP Gold Potosí tournament, with all eight favorites advancing to the round of 16 without major complications.
Top-seeded duo Edu Alonso and Gonza Alfonso set the tone with a commanding 6-0, 7-6 victory over Nunez/Nasif, while second seeds Inigo Jofre and Lucas Campagnolo delivered an even more dominant performance, dispatching lucky losers Silberman/Diaz 6-0, 6-1.
The pattern continued throughout the bracket as third seeds Agustin Torre and Alex Ruiz defeated Suarez/Alcaraz, and fourth seeds Javier Barahona and Alvaro Cepero overcame Argañaras/Almada. Only eighth seeds Alberto Garcia and Ivan Ramirez were pushed to the limit, needing three sets to edge past Escalante/Albanes 4-6, 7-5, 7-6.
With 150 FIP ranking points on offer for the champions, today's second day promises even more action as the women's 16-pair draw makes its debut. The tournament will feature a packed schedule with round of 16 matches beginning at 6 p.m. CET, followed by quarter-finals starting at midnight CET.
